The UFWG was established in order to “ To promote the implementation of sustainable forest resources management principles”.
The mission promotes the development of the forestry sector and stimulation of all forestry stakeholders to respond appropriately to changes and challenges within the sector.
In order to enhance sector prioritization and documentation of field evidence in line with UFWG priorities, the secretariat implemented a participatory project on private forestry to ensure evidence–based advocacy on selected issues requiring policy engagement at the district and National levels. The larger membership of UFWG in the process gain quick access to evidence on the ground from partners. As the host of the secretariat, Environmental Alert (EA) has been able to facilitate community-led on-sight documentation of evidence.
